Export Azure DevOps link relations with easeRequirements

Export coverage data to Excel, add work items from queries to the tree, and more with easeRequirements for Azure DevOps 1.6.31!

We are excited to introduce easeRequirements for Azure DevOps version 1.6.31, bringing significant enhancements to the Coverage View and Requirements Tree. This release focuses on improving coverage statistics calculations, adding export functionalities, refining query-based item additions, and enhancing the visibility and organization of requirements. Here’s what’s new:

Coverage and Traceability Enhancements

On Release 1.6 we introduced the Coverage View to provide a comprehensive overview of requirements coverage. In this release, we have further enhanced the Coverage View with new features and improvements.

Coverage Export to Excel

A new Export button on the Coverage page allow users to export their coverage data as an Excel file for offline analysis. On the Exported Excel file, users can analyze the coverage data, including the coverage status and leverage Excel functionalities like auto filters for further analysis.

Queries in Coverage Add Level

Users can now build coverage views using pre-configured queries. This enables greater flexibility in managing coverage items efficiently.

Configurable Coverage Statistics Calculation

Coverage Statistics Calculation System Engineers now have greater flexibility in how coverage statistics are calculated. You can now choose between different calculation formulas to suit your needs. The new options include:

A new option allows selection between different calculation formulas:

  • Work-Item-Based (default) - This formula calculates the coverage based on the number of work items in the previous level which are covered by work items in the current level.
  • Row-Based - This formula calculates the coverage based on the number of rows in the first level which are covered by work items in the current level.

These options are accessible from the Organization Configuration page. Changes are automatically saved when changing the formula.

Requirements Tree Enhancements

Add all work items from the current project or from a query to the tree

Users can now add all work items from a query to the Requirements Tree. This feature allows users to quickly populate the tree with work items that meet specific criteria, streamlining the organization and management of requirements.

Add existing tree menu item

To access this feature, right-click on any work item in the tree and select Add Existing then choose as source Add all work items from this project not added to the tree or Add work items from query. A panel will show you how many work items:

  • There is in the project or selected query
  • Are already in the tree
  • Will be added to the tree

By clicking the Add button, the work items will be added to the tree below the selected work item.

Display Work Item ID in the Tree

To improve visibility, users can now toggle work item IDs within the Requirements Tree through the cog menu. This feature helps users quickly reference and link items.

Other smaller enhancements and fixes

Navigation and sharing have been improved with the ability to copy direct links to saved views. A Copy link address option has been added to the Coverage View and Traceability Matrix context menus. Selecting this option copies the full URL (including coverage or trace matrix ID) to the clipboard.

Alphabetical Sorting in Relations Table

The Relations Table now sorts entries in a structured manner:

  1. First by Relation Type
  2. Then by Work Item Title

This improves clarity when working with large numbers of related work items.

Test Steps in Baseline Compare and Revisions

Test steps are now correctly visualized in the review and compare sections, making it easier to track changes and ensure test coverage consistency across baselines.

Fix: Baseline Comparison Scope Issue

An issue where the “Only Changes” filter was not respected when switching baselines has been resolved. Now, only changed items remain visible when changing baselines during a comparison.

Conclusion

The 1.6.31 release of easeRequirements for Azure DevOps delivers significant enhancements in coverage tracking, traceability, and requirements organization. These improvements provide better control, visibility, and usability, ensuring a more efficient workflow for our users.
